It is very important to your dog to walk him or her everyday. Here are some of the top reasons why:
1. Physical Well-being: A fit and healthy dog is a beautiful sight. Their muscles are strong, bodies are sleek. Lungs and muscles need to
be exercised on a regular basis to stay fit and strong. Many dogs
suffer from health problems just because they are overweight, i.e.
heart problems, breathing difficulties and joint pain are the most
common. Having your dog walked can go a long way to keeping
their weight under control.
2. Mental Well-being: Dogs do not like to sit around all day long and
do nothing. They weren't meant for that. They are intelligent
animals with keen senses that would naturally be used for hunting
and scavenging. By taking your dog out of his or her property on a
daily basis, you are giving them the opportunity to use their senses
and to engage their minds.
3. Socializing Opportunities: While many people make an effort to
socialize their puppies, they don't realize that socializing should be
a life-long process. Dogs that continue to go out of their properties
on a regular basis, have the chance to meet other people and dogs,
and also to experience the world around them. These dogs will
remain socialized for the rest of their lives, and will become more
of a pleasure to take out as time goes by.
4. Outlet For Excess Energy: Healthy, young dogs are extremely
energetic. They need an outlet for energy in order not to become
too excited and uncontrollable in your home. Jumping up on people
and barking excessively are just a few examples of too much
energy. A walk can release this pent up energy and anxiety.
5. Reduction In Behavioral Problems: Destructive chewing, digging,
excessive barking, uncontrollable energy are a few problems that
can result from boredom. Your dog has nothing else to do to
occupy his time, so they find something to do, usually "bad" things.
Having your dog go for walk gives them something positive to do
instead. Once your dog knows they can count on a daily walk, they
will usually stop trying to find other undesirable things to do while
they are at home.
6. Longevity: Dogs that get regular exercise are fitter and healthier
than those who don't, and therefore, live longer. As joints weaken
with age, it is extremely important to keep muscles as strong as
possible so that they can support the joints and enable your dog to
continue to get around for as long as possible.
7. Sheer Enjoyment: I strongly believe that having your dog go for a
daily walk makes them happy. As soon as a leash is picked up, I'm
sure most people will agree, dogs immediately livin up!! They can't
wait to get out the door and just go!! Explore, smell, see... just to
get out of the house and break up their day. Just as our children
enjoy going on outings, so do our four-legged children. I'm sure I'm
not imagining the look of sheer delight on their faces when they're
on their walk, and when they return home afterwards, there is the
look of complete contentment as they flop down to rest.
